Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have displaced Chitipa United at the summit of the TNM Super League after a 1-0 win over Mafco at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre Sunday.
Gaddie Chirwa scored the all-important goal in the 54th minute to take Wanderers to 36 points from 19 matches, at par with Chitipa, who are second because of an inferior goal difference.
The Nomads are reigning supreme due to a goal difference of 12 against Chitipa’s seven.
Wanderers Coach Mark Harrison described the match as tough.
“It was not an easy game. We had chances we wasted. We could have scored two or three more goals. We never got into our rhythm in the first half but we got better in the second. But, at the end of the day, we are happy with the three points after Mafco made life difficult for us,” Harrison said.

Mafco Coach Pritchard Mwansa blamed the loss on officiation.
“The referees wanted Wanderers to win and I believe they are happy with the final result. We have not lost to Wanderers. We have lost to the referees. There is now proof that there are certain referees who want their teams to win. Maybe they do not like Malawi Defence Force teams,” Mwansa said.
In other matches, Bangwe All Stars came from behind to force a 1-1 draw with Moyale at Rumphi Ground while Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar were 2-0 winners over Red Lions.
Bangwe are now seventh on the table with 25 points from 19 matches whereas Moyale lie 11th after fulfilling 18 fixtures.
