Mighty Wanderers players and technical panel were left smiling to the bank after the team’s president Thomson Mpinganjira directed that all the gate revenue from Sunday’s FDH Bank Cup derby win be disbursed to the team.
This follows Wanderers’ 1-0 over rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the semifinal at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
Coincidentally, Mpinganjira gave the team K20 million as a reward for thrashing Bullets 3-0 in the second round match of the TNM Super League at the same venue last week.
Mpinganjira said beating Bullets was not an ordinary win and it deserved a special thank you.
“Any game against Bullets demands special recognition and at a minimum it will be special. The entire gate takings will go to the boys and their technical panel and I thank the team for this win,” he said.

This means Wanderers players and coaches will share about K21 million.
Meanwhile, Wanderers Director of Football David Kanyenda hailed Mpinganjira for always being the number one supporter and sponsor for the team.

“We can’t ask for anything more than this. It was just last week when our president gave the team K20 million for beating Bullets in the league and here we are.
“This is a special motivation to the players ahead of the final and I believe the players are hungrier now than ever,” Kanyenda said.

On his part, Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira described the gesture as a timely gift to the players and all technical panel members.
“We didn’t expect it. This is a very big surprise and we are so much thankful to our president for always being with us in times of good or bad. We will continue working hard to put a smile on his face,” Mpinganjira said.
The Nomads cruised to the final after through a late Promise Kamwendo header to set a final against giants Silver Strikers who beat Civil Service United on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Blantyre derby grossed K102 million, with the teams taking home K21 million each.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) received K16 million whereas Malawi National Council of Sports got K4 million.
