Principal Secretary for Homeland Security Steven Kayuni on Tuesday urged the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services to immediately address challenges associated with passport service delivery.
Kayuni made the remarks in Lilongwe during a roundtable with heads of sections from Immigration headquarters and regional Immigration offices.
He emphasised that the department’s technocrats are better placed to provide solutions to challenges that are affecting service delivery at Immigration offices.
“There is a need for unity among officers, commitment and professionalism as these are catalysts for finding long-term solutions to the provision of people-centred services to all clients,” Kayuni said.
Kayuni assured officers that the ministry would support the department in achieving its mission in line with the dictates of the Malawi 2063 vision.

On his part, commissioner responsible for operations Fletcher Nyirenda assured Kayuni that the department would do its best to ensure that service delivery is improved.
According to Nyirenda, a taskforce has been set to conduct a situational analysis and make necessary recommendations so that problems associated with passport issuance can be addressed.
Head of Research and Planning Unit Vivian Kasambo also presented a general overview of the department, including strategic plan.
Kasambo emphasised the need to expedite the review of the Immigration and Citizenship Act.
