The Ministry of Health has, through the Public Health Institute of Malawi (Phim), launched the agenda for National Health Research ll and Research Methodology, which will provide a framework for conducting health sector research.
Speaking during the launch of the agenda in Lilongwe Thursday, Principal Secretary for Administration Bestone Chisamile reaffirmed the government’s commitment towards advancement of the research agenda.
Chisamile said the agenda spells out challenges which health officials face when conducting research.
“The National Health Research Agenda spells out how we are going to conduct health-related research. As such, one of the important aspects is that it is not donor-driven, unlike the first agenda. And we have looked at our priorities. We have also proceeded to the [stage of the] implementation of the plan and we have used local resources throughout the whole process,” Chisamile said.

Meanwhile, civil society organisations’ representative Maziko Matemba has said they would ensure that they provide checks and balances in the implementation of the research agenda.
“We will also ensure that the agenda is implementable,” Matemba said.
The first agenda was rolled out in 2012-16 and the second agenda will run from 2023 to 2030.
