Miss Malawi organisers have expressed concern over the lack of support to the national pageant, which is yet to hit the ground with registration as well as other processes ahead of the 2023 edition.
Organisers have been quiet of late since announcing the opening of registration in July where they made changes starting with the age which they had indicated had moved from 28 to 30 and that those with a child would also be eligible.
But one of the players, Clara Makunganya, admitted Tuesday that they were struggling to get funds for this year’s edition but was swift to say that they were targeting to hold the grand finale in March next year.
“We are pushing, we have been using our own resources to get things done and it has not been easy to get funds. This is a national pageant that deserves all the support but the response has not been good. Last year, we had to make steps on our own before some players joined us,” Makunganya said.
She acknowledged that time had run out for them, having held the previous edition in December and that, this time, they were also targeting the same month.

“We cannot hold the pageant in December because we are still running around to put things together but we are looking at doing registration and auditions in December and then the main event in March next year,” Makunganya said.
She said the current Miss Malawi Jescar Mponda has been vibrant in her doings, marketing the country to the world.
“We are happy with the strides she has made and she is also part of the team that has travelled to Conakry, Guinea, to showcase designs and beauty of Malawi. If we had enough in our coffers, she would have been engaged in more tasks and the idea is for this office to lead the way in terms of uplifting tourism,” Makunganya said.
