Malawi Property Investment Company Limited (Mpico) has invested a total of K231 million in netball since 2016.
This was disclosed during the finals of the 2025 Central Region Gateway Mall Netball at Gateway Mall Court in Lilongwe on Sunday.
Mpico General Manager Elliott Jambo said Mpico, which is a member of Old Mutual (Malawi) Limited, had unearthed talent in the country through the sponsorship.
“This speaks volumes to the numbers of netball careers we have nurtured and the massive impact we have had in this sporting discipline,” Jambo said.
He said the company was happy to be associated with the development of netball in Malawi.

“Through this netball challenge, we proudly complement the government’s efforts to advance sports development while creating safe, enabling spaces where the girl-child can thrive,” he said.
He described the 2025 edition as the most exciting ever.
Jambo said the investment in netball had started bearing fruit as the league contributed the highest number of players selected for the Malawi National Team camp and the traveling squad for international fixtures.
“The increase of sponsorship this year speaks to our confidence in the league, our appreciation of the collaborative efforts with Central Region Netball Committee, and our deep belief in the power of sport to transform lives,” Jambo said.

Mpico increased the 2025 Gateway Mall Netball Challenge to K47 million from K40 million.
Ministry of Youth and Sports spokesperson Macmillan Mwale hailed Mpico for improving the standards of netball in the country.
“The competition is a good platform for identifying hidden talent from rural areas.
“We applaud support from the private sector like Mpico, which is complementing the ministry’s mandate to develop sports in the country,” Mwale said.
The eighth edition of Mpico Gateway Mall Netball Challenge attracted 150 teams, 20 above last year’s registration.
Central Region Netball Committee Treasurer Triza Mailosi said the league had exposed many players.
“We have watched the cream of netball in Malawi. The league is a good platform for exposing players,” he said.
