Cabinet ministers have started complying with President Peter Mutharika’s directive that they should be sending him monthly reports detailing how they have worked and what they plan to work on the following months, The Daily Times has learnt.
Mutharika’s spokesperson Cathy Maulidi confirmed the development on Thursday.
She said all Cabinet ministers had complied with the directive.
“I can confirm that all Cabinet ministers have submitte their monthly reports to the President. This is in line with the directive by the President and this arrangement will continue. All Cabinet ministers are aware that noncompliance to this directive is a serious misconduct and the appointing authority can take appropriate action that he deems fit,” Maulidi said.
When he presided over the swearing-in ceremony of cabinet Ministers after his election in the September 16, 2025 Presidential Election, Mutharika directed that all ministers should be providing an indication of how things are panning out.

Mutharika said Cabinet positions should not be seen as a means of looting or swindling money meant for poor people but that, rather, it should be regarded as a noble call to serve the people.
Meanwhile, Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency Executive Director Willy Kambwandira has lauded the development. “However, I wish there could be a way for Malawians to be accessing or appreciating the reports that are being sent to the President. We have the Access to Information law which can be explored to ensure that this is not a once-off [case of] compliance,” Kambwandira said.
