Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) affiliates have vowed to tread carefully during the association’s Extra-Ordinary General Meeting (EGM) slated for Malawi Sun Hotel in Blantyre on June 29.
The affiliates are expected to fill the vacant posts of vice president, vice general secretary and vice treasurer during the EGM.
Mulanje District Netball Committee Chairperson Steve Nyadira said they will not be swayed by names but rather individuals’ capabilities.
“We will not vote for an individual just because they have a name or not. We will consider their qualifications and abilities. For instance, in the position of treasurer, we need a person with related qualifications.

“We will not even consider regions because sometimes we end up losing out better administrators in our efforts to balance the regional representation,” Nyadira, who was the chairperson for concerned affiliates, said.

Nam interim General Secretary Yamikani Kauma said preparations for the EGM were at an advanced stage.
“Currently, we are taking advice from the Malawi National Council of Sports. They are aware of our programme and we are waiting for funding,” Kauma said.
Sports Council Chief Executive Officer Henry Kamata confirmed offering support to Nam.
Meanwhile, two former Malawi National Netball Team players [names withheld] have expressed interest to vie for the posts of vice president during the EGM.
