Mighty Wanderers and Mzuzu City Hammers will face each other in the TNM Super League match at Mzuzu Stadium this afternoon.
The Nomads have a chance to reclaim top spot from current leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets if they beat Hammers today. Currently, Wanderers are second on the 16-member log table with 56 points from 24 matches, behind Bullets on goal difference, who have played a game more.
Bullets have a better goal difference of 34 against Wanderers’ 28. But this afternoon, the Nomads will be looking to bounce back to winning ways following a goal-less stale with Chitipa United at Chitipa Ground on Sunday.
Hammers, on the other hand, will be looking to boost their relegation survival chances. They have been inconsistent this season but they have what it takes to cause an upset.
Hammers last beat Wanderers 2-0 in the TNM Super League last season at the same venue but the Nomads thrashed them 8-0 in the second round match at Kamuzu Stadium.

This season Wanderers earned a 1-0 victory over Hammers in the first round. But after a goal-less draw on Sunday, Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira said their focus was on the remaining matches. “We are focusing on our matches. We take each game as it comes,” he said.
Hammers are second from bottom with 24 points from 26 matches. They defeated Songwe Border United 3-0 last week to keep their survival dream alive. Assistant coach Lawrence Waya said the win boosted their morale. “We will fight until the last match of the season,” he said.
Wanderers last won the league in 2017. But Bullets won the league for five consecutive years since 2018. Bullets will face Karonga United at Chitipa Stadium on Saturday.
At this stage, the title race is a three-horse. Defending champions Silver Strikers are third with 47 points from 23 matches.
