Renowned musicians Onesimus and Driemo on Saturday gave music lovers a treat during a red-carpet concert held at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.
Dubbed Magician Butter Music Experience, the gig— which also featured sets from Makasu and Mibawa bands as well as DJs Mighty Virus and Boo—gave Onesimus and Driemo a chance to showcase their music.
On a day when the commercial city was awash with happenings, including a social weekend at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas) and The FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Street Party in Ndirande Township—which saw the presence of artists such as Eli Njuchi and Jetu—the concert attracted its own stake of patrons.
Makasu renewed memories of its past adventures, when it was calling the shots with Bright Livewire Nkhata, by offering a number of tracks.
The tracks included ‘Napolo’ ‘Shake Your Body’ and ‘Sikunala’.

Hosted by Super DT, Mibawa Band was next, with its lead vocalist Goma Nyondo keeping the stage active.

The bank dished out a number of covers before paving the way for Driemo, better known as Magician.
Mibawa Band’s routine melted people’s hearts, including that of Gift Mabeya Mbeya, who donated K500,000 to the Chigumula-based music outfit and promised to invite them to perform at his pub, Chitipi, in Lilongwe.
Driemo raised the bar once he jumped on stage and kept the audience on the dance floor from start to finish, offering songs from his old and new collections.

He did not skip trending songs such as ‘Pensulo’ and ‘Joker’, which had people singing along.
“It has been sometime since I performed here and, so, I am happy. The support I received was massive. All I can say is keep supporting us and watch the space for more music,” he said.
Driemo performed for more than an hour before Onesimus, popularly known as African Butter, took over.
Onesimus, who took advantage of the stage to announce to patrons the launch of his new album in May, offered several songs on his itinerary.
The songs included ‘Why Do Me So’ and ‘Tabwera’.
“I am thankful to Malawians because they are the ones who have made me to be where I am today. This, for me, is love and I do not take it for granted,” the award-winning artist, who also performed for more than an hour, said.
He left the stage while it was still hot in the early hours of yesterday, with DJ Boo taking over and closing the curtain.
