Police Thursday opened one more case for comedian-cum human rights activist Bon Kalindo, moments after the Lilongwe Principal Resident Magistrate Court adjourned the hearing for his bail application in a case pertaining to his arrest on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Kalindo was arrested for allegedly publishing material that is likely to cause public alarm.
Soon investigator Innocent Kasambaraafter Principal Resident Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe adjourned the bail hearing, police told the court that they were opening another case for Kalindo.
Kasambara described the case as that of illegal possession of a gun, saying they suspect that Kalindo committed the offence in 2021.
According to Kasambara, Kalindo is alleged to have committed the offence when he went to Police Headquarters with a gun in order to get a licence.

Kalindo remained composed as things unfolded.
Kasambara then applied to the court to remand Kalindo for another five days, saying this was necessary for the State to carry out investigations into the issue.
However, Kalindo’s lawyer Khwima Mchizi quizzed Kasambara to tell the court about the day police came to know about the gun issue, indicating that 2021 is such a long time ago.
But Kasambara did not answer the question, saying, instead, that police would like to know how Kalindo allegedly acquired the firearm.

Mchizi and Kalindo’s other lawyer Gilbert Khonyongwa then told the court that Kalindo would exercise his right to remain silent on the matter.
Michongwe is expected to give a ruling on Kalindo’s bail application this morning.
