The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) has said it will bar vendors who fail to register on the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (Maneps) by December 31.
The authority says noncomplying ones will not be allowed to be doing business with the government.
This comes at a time 7,704 suppliers have, as of October 2026, registered on Maneps.
Speaking in Mzuzu City, during a media engagement with Nyika Media Club members, PPDA Director General George Mankhwala said only nine percent of registered suppliers are small and medium enterprises.

“Technology adaptation has been a challenge due to poor infrastructure development. So, in the hubs we are planning to establish, there will be internet facilities and gadgets that will help to ease operations, especially in areas with network challenges,” he said.
Mankhwala said any procuring and disposing entity (PDE) that fails to move to Maneps by December will face penalties.
“We are hoping that everyone will be on board by January 2027 because we have been doing training with PDEs and suppliers since the system’s rollout and the belief is that this information has reached everyone,” Mankhwala said.
Meanwhile, Nyika Media Club Vice President Clementina Pondelani has said the training was crucial.

PPDA has introduced Maneps to modernise public procurement, improve efficiency and curb corruption, among other things.
The system has made digital procurement mandatory for all ministries, departments and agencies since April 1, 2026.
