The Malawi Women’s National Netball Team has turned to brothers—the Kings—for friendly matches ahead of their respective international tournaments.
The Queens are in camp in readiness for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, which are scheduled for July 23 to August 2 in Scotland, as well as the Africa Netball Cup, slated for September 16 to 26 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Malawi Men’s National Netball Team will also participate in the continental championship.
So far, the two sides have been engaged in two friendly matches at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (Kuhes) Sports Complex in
Blantyre, with the Queens edging the Kings 43-42 on Monday.

However, the Kings gave the Queens a taste of their own medicine after they won 48-42 at the same venue yesterday.
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary Yamikani Khungwa-Kauma said the two matches were competitive.
“Preparations for the Malawi Queens are progressing well, as the team continues to train and build towards upcoming international assignments.
The players have demonstrated commitment and determination in camp while the technical team is focusing on fitness, tactical execution, team combinations and overall performance enhancement,” she said.

Queens expatriate coach Debbie Fuller said preparations were on track. “We had eight days of training and, within those days, we had three days of trials. We have had wonderful training matches with the Malawi Kings,” the High-Performance Consultant, who penned a year-long deal, said.
