Silver Ladies and Civil Women players in action
NBM Women’s Premiership inaugural champions Silver Strikers Ladies have said they will rectify mistakes which led to their second loss in the league.
Silver Ladies lost 2-0 to Civil Service Women at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.
The Central Bankers were crowned champions last week with three matches to go but still fielded a strong starting lineup that also had leading scorer Deborah Henry.
However, Civil were determined to cause an upset against their city rivals and shocked them with a goal in the 44th minute courtesy of Emily Samuel.
The hosts continued to dominate proceedings and doubled the lead in the 71st minute through Vitumbiko Mkandawire, who clinched the player-of-the-match accolade.

Silver coach Andrew Chikhosi said they would work hard to collect maximum points in their remaining two matches.
“We accept defeat but life goes on. We have two matches to wrap up the season and the need to win both is great. We, as champions, must finish the season in style through collecting maximum points.
“My players might have been thinking that because they have already won the league title, life would be easy for them in this match. But Civil were well prepared and got the result,” Chikhosi said.
Civil Coach Collins Pofera said they had a good match.

“I told the girls to fight for their lives against the champions. To us, the fact that the title has already gone to Silver Ladies means nothing. We just had to collect maximum points against them. We were first on the ball and closed all spaces. There was no way we would accept to lose at home.
“We knew that Silver were fully prepared to add us to their list of casualties. This was a derby which they have been dominating and this was our time to turn the tables. We want to finish the season with maximum points and will work hard to achieve this goal,” Pofera said.
Civil are now sixth from seventh place with 25 points, at par with MDF Lionesses, who suffered a 3-0 defeat to runners-up Ascent Soccer on the same day.
In the Blantyre derby, which also took place on Saturday, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women cemented third position with a 1-0 win over Mighty Wanderers at Mpira Stadium.
Triza Chiwere netted the all-important goal in the 58th minute for Bullets to cruise to 31 points.
The Mzuzu derby was also played on the same day and saw relegated Topik Academy clinch their first win of the year with a 2-1 triumph over fellow strugglers MK Academy at Luwinga.
