SHARED SPOILS – Bullets and Ekhaya

There were twists and turns in FDH Bank Premiership Week 10 after the top four teams registered mixed fortunes over the weekend and swapped positions.

Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers climbed up the table following their victories in their respective matches.

The Central Bankers delivered a masterclass performance following a 4-1 thumping of Karonga United at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe City.

Following the win, Silver moved to position two from four on the 16-member log table with 21 points from 10 matches, at par with Wanderers on points.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets shared the spoils with Ekhaya following a goal-less stalemate at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre City whereas Blue Eagles lost 2-1 to Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

The People’s Team descended to position three with 20 points from 10 matches whereas Eagles are fourth with 19 points from the same number of matches.

VICTORIOUS – Silver

Interestingly, the gap between the top four teams is just two points heading into the 11th week of the season.

Silver scored three quick goals after the break to unsettle Karonga, with Lasuli Jali, Innocent Shema, Chinsinsi Maonga and Charles Chipala scoring for the Central Bankers.

After a barren first half, Jali opened the scoring from close range in the 51st minute.

Two minutes later, Shema doubled the lead with a fine header.

Maonga turned from provider to goal-scorer in the 59th minute.

Lenox Kiwambe scored the face-saver for the visitors 15 minutes to full time before Chipala netted the fourth goal of the match in the 86th minute.

Silver Assistant Coach Mapopa Msukwa said his charges deserved to win the match.

“It is not about revenge but the most important thing is points,” he said.

Karonga interim coach Christopher Chimkwita said the team lost concentration in the second half.

“We started slowly in the second half and Silver capitalised on that. We conceded three goals quickly due to lack of concentration,” he said.

At Civo Stadium, KB came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win over Eagles.

Fahad Mcheka had given Eagles the lead but Kelvin Hanganda equalised and, after that, Hope Namadzunda scored the winner from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere, Chitipa United beat Goshen City Dedza Dynamos 2-1 at Dedza Stadium.
