Malawi National Football Team and FCB Nyasa Bullets attacker Lanjesi Nkhoma’s five star performance at the ongoing 2023 Hollywood Bets Cosafa Cup has caught the attention of South Africa DStv Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs.
According to leading South African online football publication Soccer Laduma, Chiefs have enquired about Nkhoma after watching him lead the Flames’ attack against Zambia, Seychelles and Comoros.
“For now it’s just an enquiry. They have asked about him with the intention of knowing him more. And they can then bring him on the trials, something like that. He is still young and has room to grow and improve. But, so far, what they have seen from him has impressed them, hence they have enquired about him,” a source told the publication.
Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga said they would wait for official communication from Amakhosi.
“I have also just read about Chiefs’ interest in Nkhoma. I have seen such stories in South African publications. That is all I can say for now. The news is still just a rumour to us for now because we have not been officially approached about it.
“So once we are approached as a club, we will consider the matter and decide on the way forward. Suffice to say that we are hugely satisfied with the way our players are contributing to the success of the national team and we hope this will continue,” Chigoga said.
Flames caretaker coach Patrick Mabedi could neither deny nor confirm Chiefs’ interest in the player.
“We have many good players in the team and there are many scouts around asking about our players. It would be a blessing for any team that could get a player from this squad,” Mabedi told Soccer Laduma.
Nkhoma was one of the scorers when Malawi beat Seychelles 2-0 in their second match on Sunday.
