South Africa’s Betway Premiership side Magesi have parted ways with Malawian coach John Maduka.
Magesi confirmed the departure of Maduka on their official website on Wednesday.
“This is to inform the public that Magesi Football Club has, on this day, 11 February 2026, terminated the coaching contract of John Maduka with immediate effect by mutual consent,” the statement reads.
This has put to rest on the uncertainty on the future of Maduka, who had been absent from the Magesi touchline in the last two matches.

Assistant coach Abram Nteo was in charge of the last two matches.

Following the departure of Maduka, the club also announced that Allan Freese has become the head coach with immediate effect.
Maduka was not readily available for his comment Thursday.
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama said Maduka was likely to secure another coaching job soon.
“He is one of the respected coaches in South Africa. I am sure he will get offers from other teams,” he said.

Currently, Magesi are bottom of the log table with 11 points from 15 matches.
The former Flames midfielder previously coached Royal AM and Bloemfontein Celtic.
Maduka is the only recognised Malawian coach in South Africa whereas Flames striker Frank Gabadinho Mhango is the only Malawian player in the Betway Premiership.
Interestingly, both Maduka and Mhango played for Celtic in their football careers.
