Malawi Women’s National Football Team captain Tabitha Chawinga was the toast of the night on Monday after she bagged three awards at a gala night in Italy.
Tabitha officially received her golden boot award for scoring 23 goals in 21 matches while she played for Italian side Inter Milan Women, on loan from Chinese champions Wuhan Jiangda, last season.
She wrote her own piece of history as the first female African player to win it.
On top of that, Tabitha was named the best player (women calciatrice) for the 2022-23 Serie A Femminile season.
Tabitha also picked other awards when she was named as the best forward of the season. She was also named in the best 11 of the season.

Tabitha, who is also on another season-long loan at Paris Saint-Germain in France, was excited with her exploits.
“After a one-year loan stint with Inter Milan, I have been awarded as the best player, best forward and top goal scorer,” wrote the Malawian on her Facebook page yesterday.
The former DD Sunshine (now Silver Strikers Ladies) player has started her career in France on a high.
So far, she has scored six goals in the league—one goal behind leading goal scorer Eugenie Le Sommer of Olympique Lyon in the French Women’s League.

Louise Fleury of Paris FC also has six goals in the league this season.
In total, she has scored seven goals for the club after netting one goal in the Uefa Champions League. Scorches coach Lovemore Fazili was proud with Tabitha’s achievements.
“It is a great achievement for her and Malawi. This is an encouragement to the other female football players,” Fazili said.
She has a good record of winning golden boot awards in her debut season in all the countries she has played football.
In her debut season in Sweden, Tabitha scored 38 goals in 35 matches for Krokom/Dvassalts.
In China, she also won the golden boot award after she scored 17 goals for Jiang Sunning in 2017.
