Malawi Women’s Football Team and Paris Saint-Germain striker Tabitha has been short-listed for the Confederation of African Football (Caf)-FIFPro Africa XI at the upcoming Caf awards slated for today at the Palais des Congres, Movenpick, Marrakech, Morocco.

According to a letter from Caf, which Times Sport has seen, the nomination recognises the outstanding achievements and exceptional talent demonstrated by her throughout the year.

“We are excited to announce that Tabitha Chawinga has been short-listed for the category Caf FIFPro Africa XI,” the letter reads.

Caf will be responsible for her air travel in business class and full board accommodation in a five-star hotel and local transport in Morocco.

Chawinga’s manager Kuwala Msolomba confirmed that they have received an invitation from Caf.

“She is excited and optimistic about the shortlisting. I am positive her name is going to be on the winning list for the Caf FifPro Africa XI,” Msolomba said.

The Malawian was also nominated for the 2023 Caf Women’s Footballer of the year award but she did not make it into the final list of the nominees.

Tabitha had a good season with Italian side Inter Milan Women while on loan after she scored 23 goals in 21 matches.

She became the first African female to win the golden boot award in Italy.

Last week, on top of winning the golden boot award, she was named the best player (women calciatrice) for the 2022-23 Serie A Femminile season.

She was also named best forward of the season and was also named in the best 11 of the season.

National Women’s Football Association Chairperson Adela Migogo was also excited with the news.

“This is great news for Malawi. She deserves to be recognised at the top level. Tabitha is very talented and I am happy for her,” Migogo said.

She has also started her career in France on a high after scoring six goals for PSG in the league and one goal in the Uefa Women’s Champions League.
