US-based Malawian striker Temwa Chawinga has smashed another record by becoming the fastest player in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) to reach 50- goal contributions.
The Kansas City Current forward achieved the feat in just 53 matches beating Sophia Wilson and Sam Kerr, who achieved it in 63 and 71 matches, respectively. Lynn Biyendolo and Christen Press achieved a similar feat in 72 and 76 matches, respectively.
Temwa said she was excited with her exploits in the NWSL.
“I am happy to continue shining. I thank God for making it possible. It is not easy to achieve all these things,” she said.
Temwa has started the 2026 season with a bang having scored five goals including one hat trick and a brace since her return from the injury.

The former Wuhan Jiangda striker is four goals behind current top goal scorer Zambian Barbara Banda of Orlando Pride.
Temwa said she is not focusing much on personal glory.
“I want to help the team win trophies. I will be happy if we win the championship this season,” she said.
The Malawian smashed several records in US including winning the golden boot award with 20 goals-becoming the first female player to achieve that feat in a single regular season in 2024.

She also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award the same year.
The same year, Temwa also became the first player to score against all teams in NWSL in a single season. Last season, despite having injuries, Temwa retained both the golden boot award and the MVP accolade. She scored 15 goals last season.
Additionally, she also became the fastest player to hit 30 regular season goals in 40 matches, having smashed the previous 51-game record.
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama hailed Temwa for her exploits.
“She has lived up to her expectations. Temwa has been consistent which speaks a lot about her quality,” Chinyama said.
Meanwhile, her sister Tabitha Chawinga has a chance to win the Uefa Women’s Champions League as her side Olympique Lyonnais face Barcelona in the final in Oslo, Norway, tonight.
Tabitha could become the first Malawian female player to win the Champions League.
She is likely to feature for Lyon.
