Mighty Mukuru Wanderers President Thomson Mpinganjira is expected to drum up support for Super League of Malawi (Sulom) during the association’s fundraising dinner at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe on Saturday.
Sulom has announced that the business mogul would be the guest of honour during the dinner, aimed at raising money to go towards its operations and supporting teams ahead of the commencement of the 2024 season.
“We are privileged to announce Dr Thomson Mpinganjira, a well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist, as our guest of honour at the highly anticipated Sulom fundraising dinner and dance.
“It reckons to be a night stakeholders are united by a common vision to uplift the standards of our elite football league,” the statement reads.
Mpinganjira said he was humbled with the invitation.

“The closing paragraph summarises it very well… united by a common vision, to uplift the standards of our elite football or we will remain mediocre,” Mpinganjira said in a brief statement.
Meanwhile, Sulom acting President Gilbert Mittawa has hailed Mpinganjira for accepting the association’s invitation.
“We are greatly honoured and very grateful for his accepting the invitation. He plays a very crucial role as a public figure, a philanthropist and football sponsor. He is an inspiration to many and we could not settle for anyone better,” Mittawa said.
Recently, Mittawa said funds generated from the initiative would directly go to 16 teams in the league to mitigate logistical challenges they face.

He also clarified that the money is not part of the K20 million subvention that Sulom promised each team in the league.
