The Times Group brands— namely Times Print, Times Television and Times Radio— emerged number one in the newspaper, television and radio categories at the Institute of Marketing in Malawi (IMM) inaugural Superbrand Awards.
IMM President George Damson said the institute introduced the Superbrand Awards to recognise strong brands that form the backbone of the economy.
“Super brands set higher standards, influence customer loyalty, drive innovation and play a central role in attracting both local and foreign investment. Whether in agriculture, banking, retail, ICT [information and communication technology] , manufacturing or energy, these brands consistently deliver value, push industries forward and position Malawi for broader regional and global relevance,’ Damson said.
He said the brands were identified through a comprehensive research project that was conducted by an independent firm commissioned by IMM.

“This process involved examining factors such as service quality, customer satisfaction, community impact, profitability, national relevance, scalability, ethics, local authenticity and potential for regional export,” Damson said.
Principal Secretary for Trade, Industrialisation, Business and Tourism Jean Munyenyembe said the awards served as a source of motivation to companies, who have to compete in delivering quality products and services.
“When assessing a product, one considers its usefulness, quality and the level of customer satisfaction. Therefore, the Superbrand Awards encourage competition among industry players, thereby enhancing production,” Munyenyembe said.
The Times Group Chief Commercial Manager Raphael Chirwa said the Superbrand Awards served as testament to the fact that The Times Group has established platforms with captured audiences that advertisers can easily reach with their messages.

“We thank our audiences for their loyalty and for trusting The Times Group platforms for news, information and entertainment. We will continue innovating to deliver superior products befitting the ‘super brands’, as defined by IMM and our audiences,” Chirwa said.
IMM introduced the Superbrand Awards in 2025 to recognise the top 200 brands in Malawi, with Illovo Sugar Malawi emerging as the overall top brand in the country.
