Mobile phone service provider TNM plc has presented K10 million to this year’s Presidential Charity Golf tournament.
The tournament is scheduled for October 7 and will be hosted by President Lazarus Chakwera.
It seeks to support underprivileged students in public tertiary institutions and those affected by Cyclone Freddy.
TNM Chief Executive Officer Michel Hebert said, as a locally-established company, they view this as an opportune time to give back to the community.

“We pledge to continue partnering others to support victims of that disaster. In the same vein, we are always eager to play our part in supporting the country’s education sector where over the years, we have made remarkable contributions,” Hebert said.
He said the tournament is not only set to be a display of golfing prowess, but also a beacon of hope for the underprivileged segments of society.
“The sponsorship is a continuation of our spirit of standing together with Malawians in times of need. We, therefore, applaud the Presidential Charity Golf Committee for putting the needs of Malawians at heart by mobilising resources to help cyclone survivors and needy children in schools. We view this initiative as an ideal opportunity to reciprocate the unwavering support from local communities.
“While football is our flagship sponsorship property, golf is our second biggest pre-occupation. Memories of our involvement with the Malawi Open and various golf club sponsorships over the years are still fresh. All this is well anchored in our positioning as a home-grown and wholly Malawian-owned telecommunication company,” Hebert said.

A member of the competition’s organising committee, Sophie Kalambule, said the primary goal of the initiative is to collect K400 million.
“We are uniting not only for a game of golf but also to weave a safety net of support for those in need,” Kalambule said.
