Speaking at the event, TNM Chief Executive Officer Michel Hebert described the company’s journey as one of relentless innovation, highlighting its role in connecting millions of Malawians through voice, internet and mobile money services.
He said TNM covers 85 percent of the population and is working to reach the remaining 15 percent through cost-effective technologies such as solar-powered infrastructure.
Hebert also announced plans to establish artificial intelligence (AI) laboratories next year to develop relevant digital services.
“We brought the internet to millions, phone calls to millions and mobile money to millions. TNM has pioneered these technologies for the past 30 years and continues to do so.

“We are setting up innovation hubs and AI labs to empower Malawians to create AI-driven services tailored to our needs,” Hebert said.
However, Hebert cited foreign exchange shortages as TNM’s biggest challenge, affecting payments for international and equipment suppliers.
Minister of Information Shadric Namalomba hailed TNM’s contribution to national development.
He praised TNM’s role in financial inclusion through Mpamba, its support for sports via the TNM Super League and its commitment to corporate social responsibility.

“TNM has grown from a mobile operator to a digital solutions provider, linking people, communities and businesses. Every transmitter and innovation has bridged gaps between urban and rural Malawi. TNM’s story is one of resilience and leadership,” Namalomba said.
Namalomba urged TNM and other stakeholders to align with the government’s digital economy agenda under the Malawi 2063 vision, which promotes inclusive growth, smart cities, and last-mile connectivity.
