Caf Women’s Champions League champions TP Mazembe have refused to release Malawian striker Sabina Thom to Moroccan side Club des Jeunesses Ait Jazza.
Jazza expressed interest in signing the Malawian striker and offered her a one-and-a-half-year contract.
Thom’s local manager Nizzah Jere said Mazembe rebuffed the Moroccan club as Thom was still an important player to them.
“She has a lot of offers but Mazembe informed us that she is still part of the project.
“We hope that she will have more game time next season,” Jere said.
Jere said apart from Jazza, Tanzanian side Young African Sports Club (Yanga) were interested in signing the talented striker.
Thom is also on the radar of several clubs in China.
Thom, who joined Mazembe last year, has six months left on her contract with the Lubumbashi-based club.
This means Thom can sign a pre-contract with Jazza with the blessings from Mazembe.
According to a letter from Jazza, the Moroccan club offered her a monthly salary of $7000 (about K12 million).
Thom did not feature for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) side during the 2024 Caf Women’s Champions League finals in Morocco due to visa hitches.
She was unable to secure a visa to Morocco, having participated at the 2024 Cosafa Women’s Championship in South Africa.
The Scorchers exited the tournament in the semifinals after suffering a 2-0 loss to Zambia.
Mazembe’s local representative Felix Sapao was not readily available for a comment Monday.
Thom is a reliable striker for the Scorchers.
The striker helped the team to win the 2023 Cosafa Women’s Championship when she scored in the 2-1 victory over Zambia in South Africa.
She is versatile as she can play as a winger or striker.
Her work rate is also good.
In addition, her attributes include dribbling and scoring goals. Apart from Thom, Mazembe have Malawian defender Chimwemwe Madise.
