The Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) has said it is intensifying efforts to advance import substitution, export promotion, increased production and industrialisation ahead of the 36th Malawi International Trade Fair (MITF).
MCCCI Director of Membership and Development Wezi Mungoni made the remarks on Tuesday during a press briefing held at Comesa in Blantyre.
Mungoni said the chamber remains committed to promoting all sectors of the economy through initiatives that encourage production and trade.
“We have been advancing the agenda of substituting imports, promoting exports, increasing production and enhancing industrialisation. That is why we are standing for all sectors in Malawi.
“Our trade fairs usually attract participants from sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing and financial services,” she said.

She added that this year’s trade fair will feature several activities aimed at strengthening business linkages and creating opportunities for collaboration among exhibitors.
Mungoni said, in addition to the usual business-to-business (B2B) meetings held at the trade fair grounds, MCCCI has introduced a “networking gulf” to create more platforms for interaction within the business community.
“What we want to do is create platforms for interaction within the business community. It is not only Malawian companies that will participate, but we are also expecting exhibitors from other countries,” she explained.
She further said a separate networking event will be organised to promote relationship-building and facilitate trade engagements among registered exhibitors.
