The nationwide protest against the newly introduced Electronic Tax Invoicing System (EIS) led to the closure of shops in Blantyre, Zomba, Lilongwe and Mzuzu, although some small-scale vendors in open spaces continued trading.
The protest was organised by the Small-Scale Business Importers and Exporters Association.
The EIS is designed to replace hardware-based Electronic Fiscal Devices.
