Treated water leakages that are caused by burst pipes, illegal connections and faulty billing are said to be a prominent challenge weakening water utility firms’ financial standing. For instance, almost half of the treated water at Blantyre Water Board (BWB) is lost, weighing heavily on its financial returns, contributing heavily to its perpetual losses.
