Team Malawi is expected to fly from Lilongwe to Namibia today in a chartered plane for the 11th edition of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games.
Malawi National Council of Sports Chief Executive Officer Henry Kamata said a total of 165 athletes and 37 officials, including coaches and team managers, would represent Malawi at this year’s games.
He said the team’s morale had improved after being hosted by President Lazarus Chakwera at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
“In fact, the morale went up after His Excellency the State President hosted the team. The morale has been high since then. We are hoping to do well at the Games,” Kamata said.
The games will take place in two cities, with Windhoek hosting football, netball, basketball, lawn tennis, judo, boxing, karate, volleyball, e-sport and table tennis, whereas Swakopmund will host swimming, athletics, Special Olympics and para-athletics.
