By Wezzie Gausi:
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has said it is remaining with at least eight more witnesses in the corruption case involving its former boss Reyneck Matemba.
Initially, Matemba was alleged to have received $10,000 from United Kingdom-based businessperson Zuneth Sattar to influence contracts for his companies.
But, now, the graft-busting body accuses Matemba of failing to declare his interest in a board meeting which reviewed and granted a no objection for the Malawi Police Service’s food ration contract, worth $7,875,000.00, to be given to Xaviar Limited.
The company was engaged to supply 350,000 food ration packs.

Speaking after court proceedings in Lilongwe Wednesday, ACB lawyer Peter Sambani said they have more witnesses to testify in the case.
“The witness was brought to the court to give his side of the story and we are satisfied with what our witness told the court and we will continue to parade more witnesses, “ Sambani said.
On his part, Matemba, who is representing himself, said he was waiting for submissions from the witnesses.
“Well, as you heard in court, the judge has set October 10 as the day when ACB should be able to provide all the remaining submissions so that I should have a look. I will wait for that time as the case proceeds,” Matemba said.

High Court Judge Violet Chipao has since adjourned the matter to October 23.
Matemba, who is on bail, was ordered to pay a K500,000 cash bond, produce two traceable and reliable sureties bonded at K2 million each, report to ACB offices once a month, surrender travel documents to court and ask for permission to travel.
