Nine top administrators have thrown their hats into the ring for five Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Executive Committee positions during elections scheduled for December.
The nine include former Super League of Malawi president Tiya Somba Banda, who lost his post to Fleetwood Haiya.
Somba Banda said he believes he still has a lot to offer to the local game.
“I can confirm my candidature and my belief is that I can still help in the development of the game in the country. I am still young and full of energy; so, nothing will stop me from winning. I have a big role to play in Malawi football and, after taking a short break from mainstream football, I have decided to return through a Fam executive member position. I just want to help in the development of football in the country,” he said.
Incumbent Fam Executive Committee members Felistus Dossi, Muhammad Seleman and Rashid Ntelera have confirmed that they will seek re-election while Chimango Munthali and Christopher Kuyera are yet to state their stance.
Others are Southern Region Football Committee Chairperson Raphael Humba, former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers board member Ernest Maganga, ex- Fam Executive Committee member Daud Ntanthiko, former referee Patrick Kapanga and Central Region Football Association member Chinjoka Gondwe.
Dossi, who is also a Fam Disciplinary Committee member, said she still has a lot to offer.
“I believe that, this far, I have done extremely well in my position as a female Fam Executive Committee member. I can therefore confirm that, come December, I will contest again as I still have unfinished business at Fam,” she said.
Munthali, who chairs the National Youth Football Committee, said he might not contest on the same position.
“Of course, I am considering re-election but, for now, my focus is on tying the loose ends of commitments of my current mandate. So, after thorough consultations, I will surely decide which position to compete for. Let us give it a month or two,” he said.
Humba said it is now time to try a new challenge.
“It is a decision that has taken me time to make but considering what I have contributed at regional level, I believe it is time to take up a new challenge,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fam President Walter Nyamilandu is yet to come out clearly on whether he will seek re-election, just like Haiya, who is being viewed as a potential candidate for the hot seat.
However, Fam First Vice President Jabbar Alide has said he will defend his position.
Other contestants, such as James Mwenda and Christopher Kuyera, are also tipped to contest for the presidency and vice presidency.
However, they are yet to confirm their candidature.
