The sporting fraternity should expect to witness a series of changes at Malawi National Council of Sports, Times Sport has learnt.
This follows the hiring of a new chief executive officer [Executive Secretary] Henry Kamata.
Council Board Chairperson Sunduzwayo Madise said following Kamata’s arrival, council will make more announcements in the forthcoming weeks regarding appointments.
“One of our missions as a board was to ensure that we do not leave office without finalising the recruitment of executive management.
“The announcement of the appointment of the CEO is therefore the start in a series of announcements that will be made in the coming days and weeks as the board fills all the positions,” Madise said.
Madise said MNCS underwent a functional review that recommended restructuring the organisation to align it with the nation’s aspirations and also to deliver sports befitting 21st century requirements.
“One of the proposed changes was to change the executive management structure and also create new positions. We are therefore confident that Dr Kamata will lead the council in this regard, supported by the team of executives that will soon be appointed.
“These are exciting times for us as a board. These are exciting times for sports. We are geared to do our part in delivering the government’s mandate in liaison with the sports policy holder, the Ministry of Youth and Sports,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kamata is expected to assume office today [Thursday], having been handed a three-year contract.
Kamata said he was humbled to lead the institution.
“I am grateful to the Malawi nation through the Council Board for entrusting me with this responsibility of spearheading the development of sport in all disciplines and at all levels,’’ Kamata said.
