Ethno-spiritual musician Nyago left the country last week for Tanzania where she is set to perform at a concert dubbed Swahili Blues Meets Vimbuza which runs from 22 to 24 February 2024 in Zanzibar.
The creator of songs such as ‘Mdoko’ said yesterday that opportunities have started opening up for her.
“I have already had two performances and then I also have recordings set here and back home,” she said.
Last year, the Lilongwe-based musician, starred at Wikiendi Live 2023 at Nafasi Art Space in Tanzania and was also part of a three-day festival which ran from 10 to 12 December 2023.

This time around, Nyago, alongside Swahili Blues guitarist, Leo Mkanyia, will perform at Stone Town, Paje, and Michamvi.
Nyago said the concerts have been organised by Mkanyia in collaboration with Pamoja Zanzibar, and the On the Corner, a United Kingdom recording label that has in recent times started working with her.
The artist, who draws her music inspirations from life experiences, said Tanzania has become her second home having enjoyed the best of performances.
“I am learning a lot from different cultures which is helping me to grow spiritually. I have a great team here which is also helping me to grow musically, and be more independent, “Nyago said.

On his part, Mkanyia who is into Swahili Blues said he was looking forward to more performances with Nyago, adding that this is a positive step towards blending cultures of the two countries together through music.
“My music and that of Nyago are very similar as both express life in big aspects mainly political, social, and cultural. I am happy to blend and collaborate with her as you know our cultures are similar,” he said.
Pamoja Zanzibar founder, Bass Bond, real name Radek Bond Bednarz, said patrons should prepare to be enchanted by Nyago and Mkanyia.
“These music events promise an unforgettable experience. There is a nice connection between Leo’s music and Nyago’s voice because they both have their own kind of energy but works well together,” he said.
