Fifa President Giovanni Infantino is expected to inspect Football Association of Malawi (Fam) land in Lilongwe Wednesday.
According to Fam, Infantino will arrive through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe following a request from the association’s president Fleetwood Haiya.

Fam Communications and Competitions Director Gomezgani Zakazaka said full details regarding Infantino’s visit will be shared today.
“The Fifa President [Infantino] will arrive in Lilongwe on Tuesday (today) before meeting some senior government officials. He will tour some places in Lilongwe which Fam owns. However, a detailed programme will be shared on Tuesday (today),” Zakazaka said.
This is the first time Infantino is visiting Malawi after his predecessor Sepp Blatter toured Malawi in 2002.

Meanwhile, Haiya said he was humbled with Infantino’s gesture after the world football governing body’s president accepted his invitation.
“Remember I invited the Fifa President to visit Malawi after I met him in December in Saudi Arabia soon after I had been elected Fam President. I cannot pre-empt everything but I am delighted that the Fifa President will be in the country,” Haiya said.
Sports analyst George Kaudza Masina, who is also Silver Strikers Board Chairperson said:
“Fifa president’s coming to Malawi is a big boost to Malawi football. The coming of Infantino is likely to bring some developments to our football. The last time a Fifa President (Sepp Blatter) visited Malawi was a decade ago which brought Mpira Village with him.

“His coming might be seen as a vote of confidence on Fam 1, Fleetwood Haiya. As such, let Chiwembe [Fam] take advantage of this rare visit to lobby for more funding mainly on football development and the challenges facing our football.”
