Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has intensified preparations for the One Nico Top 12 Netball Cup launch slated for Saturday.
Nam General Secretary Yamikani Khungwa- Kauma said the launch of the Top 12 Cup would take place at Blantyre Sports Arena, formerly known as Blantyre Youth Centre, on Saturday.
“Plans are underway for a memorable launch and also the start of the Southern Region playoffs. By the end of this weekend, we will know which three teams will qualify for the cup in the Southern Region and similar matches will take place in the Central, East and North regions in weeks to come,” she said.
Last year in October, Nico Group announced the emergence of the Nico Top 12 Netball Cup as part of a K1 billion, three-year sponsorship deal for the Malawi Queens and the national netball league.
The sponsorship started running last year and will end in 2027, with the aim of developing netball in the country.

Khungwa-Kauma said they were thrilled to hold the launch, which is part of the K1 billion Nico netball sponsorship package, running under their One Nico Game Plan tag.
“The sponsorship objective is to ensure netball is elevated as one of the top sporting activities in the country. One way of doing this from Nico is rebuilding the Queens, identifying talent across Malawi and keeping the top teams active through this tournament, to which we will be able to identify talent that will be considered for the national team.
“We ask all our regional teams and players to register for the matches and look out for the exciting launch and the Southern playoffs this Saturday,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Queens started accessing their part of sponsorship last year and used part of it for international assignments.
