Blantyre City Arts and Cultural Festival, a creation of Blantyre City Council (BCC) and Blantyre Arts Festival (Baf), will take place Saturday at Kamuzu Upper Stadium.
The festival has been running as Blantyre Arts Festival since 2009 and will be hosted by BCC in partnership with Baf.
Baf Executive Director Thom Chibambo Thursday called upon people to patronise the festival, which will also feature acts such as Skeffa Chimoto, Tay Grin and Driemo.
“It is time to enjoy the festival once again. We have so much on the lineup, including all the artistic forms such as music, theatre, traditional dances and visual arts,” Chibambo said of the festival, which last year took place at Njamba Freedom Park.
The festival has in the past featured top acts such as veteran gospel singer Rebecca Malope, Mali’s Salif Keita and Jamaica’s dub poet Mutabaruka.

Chibambo said, apart from offering the much needed fun and elevating the arts, the festival is there to tackle issues such as environmental conservation.
The festival is running under the theme ‘Celebrating Arts, Culture and Unity to Promote Participatory Municipal Management’.
Meanwhile, youthful artist Jay Jay Cee has been forced to shift the launch of his Pamodzi album to next month due to its clashing with the Blantyre City Arts and Cultural Festival.
The launch of the album was scheduled for Robin’s Park in Blantyre Saturday, with several artists set to spice up the event.

“I have invested more in this but I just had to shift the launch to November 4 2023 because Blantyre Arts and Cultural Festival is free of charge. With my management, we thought the festival was on a break,” Jay Jay Cee said.
In another development, this year’s Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Cultural Festival will be held on Sunday at Chonde headquarters in Mulanje.
Organisers said Thursday that all was set for the festival that is aimed at promoting and preserving culture.
Ahead of the festival, there were prayers at Chonde Thursday.
