Agricultural Development and Market Corporation (Admarc) has abolished regional and district offices as part of its restructuring process.
The process has also seen the institution being split into a three-tier set-up.
In an interview, Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale said the restructuring has been done taking in mind the business and strategic aspirations as well as applicable laws and government policies.
He said the restructured Admarc will have a three-tier set-up comprising the head office, divisions and unit markets.

For instance the head office will comprise of the general manager, three departments of operations, finance and human resource and administration and four units falling directly under the general manager like the Procurement and Asset Disposal; Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation; Internal Audit; and Public Relations.
“The country will now have a total of 11 divisions across the county. These will replace the current regional offices and district offices which have been abolished,”Kawale said.
Kawale added that under the units market, a total of 240 permanent markets, not less than one market in every constituency, will be established.
“The permanent markets are to be supplemented by seasonal markets established on need basis for purposes of buying or selling. The markets will fall under a division which will coordinate and monitor the operations of the markets,” he added.

Agriculture policy expert Horace Phiri hailed the move.
“We are hoping that, through these reforms, something good is going to happen at Admarc. We are hoping for a vibrant Admarc that will help the country in terms of buying and selling of crops,” Phiri said.
The total staff establishment to support the new structure is 1,575 posts at various grade ranks which is down from 4,064 posts in the previous structure.
