Amnesty International has written the Malawi government to ensure all refugees who came forward to claim their shipping containers are given a chance to verify ownership and reclaim their goods.
At least 39 refugees and asylum seekers in Malawi are seeking the return of their 79 shipping containers which the Malawi Police Service and Malawi Defence Force seized on May 17, 2023 and auctioned on March 11, 2026.
