Revenge is a dish best served cold. Ascent Academy Tuesday swept aside defending champions Kukoma Ntopwa Women 4-0 in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Goshen Women’s Championship at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
The victory means Ascent progressed to the semi-finals of the competition.
They face either Silver Strikers Ladies or Moyale Sisters, who meet in the quarter-finals this afternoon.
It was a perfect revenge for Ascent after they lost 5-3 to Ntopwa on post-match penalties in the 2022 final.
This was after they tied at 1-1 during regulation time.

This year, Ntopwa could not wait for extra time to know their fate, as they crashed out of the competition at the end of regulation time.
Surely, it was a bad day for Isaac Jomo Osman’s girls.
Alefa Chimbeta scored a brace.
Atuweni Njilima was also on target before Rose Alufandika scored into her own net.

Ascent Coach Thom Mkolongo was on cloud nine.
“The players showed great character throughout the match. It is a good win for us,” Mkolongo said.

On his part, Osman said individual mistakes cost them the match.
“It is a painful defeat for us. We made some mistakes and got punished,” Osman said.
In the late kick-off, Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Lionesses also booked their place in the semi-final following a 4-1 victory over FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
Fazila Chiyembekeza and Ruth Tambala, Catherine Kachala and Laiter Magombo were on target for Lionesses whereas Sharon Dzimau netted the consolation goal for Bullets Women.
This was also a sweet-revenge moment for Lionesses after they lost 2-0 in the group stage match last year.
Lionesses will face winners between Civil Service United Women and MK Academy, who meet in another quarter-final today.
The semi-finals will be played on Friday.
The finale is set for Sunday.
