Bankers Association of Malawi (Bam) has donated K27 million to Beit Cure International Hospital to support free surgeries for children with physical disabilities.
The donation, made on Monday in Blantyre, is part of Bam’s corporate social responsibility and comes at a critical time when the hospital is seeking to raise K310 million to sustain its mission of providing quality medical and spiritual care to vulnerable children across Malawi.
Speaking during the cheque presentation ceremony, Bam Chief Executive Officer Lyness Nkungula said the association was committed to supporting institutions that make a lasting impact on society.
“We commend Beit Cure for its life-changing interventions. This K27 million is a contribution from all member banks and we hope it helps some of the children access the much-needed surgeries.
“Children living with physical disabilities deserve a chance to live dignified lives and reach their full potential. This is an investment into the future. We, as banks, are not only enablers of economic transformation but also recognise that a nation cannot thrive without a healthy population,” Nkungula said.

Beit Cure Executive Director Rhoda Jura Kriek thanked Bam for “the timely support”.
She said the funds would go a long way in addressing the overwhelming demand for paediatric surgical care.
She added that the hospital was running a campaign to raise K310 million to ensure it continues offering holistic treatment to children in need.
“This generous donation will help us procure essential medical supplies, conduct more surgeries and identify children in remote areas who would otherwise miss out on these services.

“We perform over 2,500 surgical procedures annually and also provide spiritual support as part of our care model. This donation will help reduce the number of people on the long waiting list, improve children’s mobility and boost their confidence and integration into society,” Mhango said.
Located in Blantyre, Beit Cure is a specialist hospital offering free paediatric, orthopedic and plastic surgeries to children with treatable conditions such as clubfoot, knock knees, bow legs, cleft lip and palates.
