Blantyre Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) is today electing leaders of its executive committee.
Delegates drawn from all its presbyteries, who are convening a biennial conference, are expected to elect the synod’s general secretary (GS), moderator and vice moderator.
Incumbent GS Reverend Billy Gama, who is vying for a second four-year term, will face off with reverends Anderson Juma, Paul Mawaya, Takuze Chitsulo and Bruno Chipewa.
Reverends Humphrey Zgambo and Moses Chitawo are challenging Edna Navaya for the position of synod moderator while Reverend Ernest Mpate, who is the synod’s vice moderator, faces a challenge from reverends Annie Kapinda and Chimwemwe Mitengo.

Meanwhile, Blantyre Synod Vice GS Reverend Baxton Maulidi has expressed hope that the elections would unite the synod.
“We are serving one God, who is full of love and promotes unity. We need to remain united and respect whoever God has chosen,” Maulidi said.
He further said the conference will also give them an opportunity to discuss and meditate on challenges the country is experiencing.
Chairperson for the organising committee James Chuma said all is set for the five-day gathering.
