Malawi National Beach Soccer coach Willy Kumilambe believes his squad has what it takes to win the inaugural 2025 Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) Beach Soccer Championship next week.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from July 16 to 20 at Pirates Beach in Mombasa, Kenya.
Kumilambe made the remarks on Tuesday after naming a 17-member squad ahead of the tournament.
“We are going there to compete. Our objective is to stamp our authority and show that we are one of the best teams in Africa,” he said.
Malawi will participate in the inaugural tournament as a guest nation following an invitation from Cecafa.

The team is in Group A alongside Burundi, Zanzibar and Kenya. Malawi will kick off their Group A campaign against Burundi on 16 July before facing Zanzibar the following day.
They will conclude the group stage against hosts Kenya on Saturday, July 19. Malawi head into the tournament as the highest-ranked team, having finished seventh after a 6-5 victory over Tanzania during the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt last year.
Meanwhile, the team has regrouped at Kambiri Lodge in Salima District.
Kumilambe has included experienced players such as Justin Bonongwe, Isaac Kajamu, Sandram Saddie and Simba Dala.
