Blantyre has been mean in recent times, in terms of pulling the numbers during events, but it was a different story on Saturday when a massive audience turned up for Piano Festival organised by Beerland Festival at Green Valley Gardens.
The organisers of the event were overwhelmed in the early periods as they struggled to contain people, who scrambled for entry before the situation normalised later on.
The huge audience dominated by young people grooved all the way, enjoying music, food and drinks.
The event, whose headliner was South Africa’s DJ Tyler ICU, started on Saturday and went all the way to the early hours of Sunday.

However, Tyler ICU of the ‘Mnike’ fame, failed to live up to the billing as his performance lacked the spark associated with a headliner.

The audience expected a lot from Tyler ICU, who showed his masterly on the decks, and although he raised the tempo in some instants, his set did not have any ‘wow’ feature.
“Malawi say Tyler ICU we wanna party,” the artist engaged the audience.
The artist from the Rainbow Nation jumped on stage after the audience had sampled the performances of local acts such as Amapiano star Zeze Kingston, Kell Kay, Eli Njuchi, Kineo and Aidfest, Afana Ceez, Tuno and Kings of the Night made up of among others, VJ Ice.
During the event that had a beautifully mounted stage, local acts showed teamwork when they performed together in their collaboration songs and it included Kell Kay with Kineo and Aidfest in the track ‘Two Two’ and Tuno, Afana Ceez and Zeze Kingston in the track ‘Chule’.

Kell Kay also took advantage of the event to give out free tickets to people for his 10th music career celebration to be held on Sunday at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
The Piano Festival received support from First Capital Bank (FCB) through the Afana Ophusha.
“The young people behind the brand and event are an epitome of Afana Ophusha Student Account. The concept itself embodies the values of Afana Ophusha Student Account,” FCB Head of Marketing and Communication Twikale Chirwa said.
He said Beerland Festival started four years ago as a platform for students to have a source of income and that, as a bank, they recognise the need to support the students.
