FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ chase for unprecedented five titles got a boost yesterday when they reached the quarterfinals of the Castel Challenge Cup with a 3-0 thrashing of Civil Service United at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Bullets, who have defended both TNM Super League and FDH Bank Cup, will meet Ekwendeni Hammers in a quarterfinal title on Wednesday, at a venue to be announced later.

The People’s Team, who are also in the Airtel Top 8 final were in a devastating mood in their quest to avenge their 2-1 second leg defeat in Airtel Top 8.

It was an open game in the first half with Civil creating a lot of chances.

Civil were made to pay for missed chances as Lanjesi Nkhoma opened the scoring when he connected a pass from Maxwell Gasten Phodo in the 19th minute.

Despite conceding the goal, Civil kept piling pressure which the hosts luckily contained. Bullets breathed a lifeline when Nkhoma turned into a provider, setting up Phodo to score his team’s second goal in the 66th minute.

Civil made a double substitution introducing Luke Chima and Festus Duwe for Lloyd Aaron and Binwell Katinji respectively.

As the Capital City giants were attacking in numbers, they were left frustrated when Kelvin Kadzinje was red carded after denying Hassan Kajoke a goal scoring opportunity.

Kajoke then put the game beyond Civil’s reach when he scored his team’s third goal.

Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa praised his charges while Civil Coach Abasi Makawa said his troops did not utilise their scoring opportunities especially in the first 25 minutes.

In another match, Bangwe All Stars reached the semifinals of the Ibongetse Cup after booting out Karonga United 4-3 on post-match penalties at Karonga Stadium.

In regulation time, the match ended goalless. Meanwhile, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers will host Moyale Barracks in a quarterfinal clash of the Castel Challenge Cup today at the same venue
