Football Association of Malawi (Fam) presidential aspirant Fleetwood Haiya last night unveiled his blueprint themed ‘Transforming the Game’ at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
Haiya, who is also Super League of Malawi (Sulom) president, in his manifesto focuses on key areas among others namely technical development and capacity building, build strategic collaboration for football development and legal reforms, transparency and accountability.
He is challenging incumbent Fam president Walter Nyamilandu, who has been at the helm for 19 years and unveiled his manifesto dubbed ‘Bridging the Gap’ on Thursday.
On technical development and capacity building, Haiya promised to define Malawi’s own unique football culture and philosophy through holistic and coherent technical policy for football development in the country.
He said should he get elected, he will strengthen the partnership with Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) and Tertiary Education Sport Association (Tessam) through the Ministry of Education by ensuring there is education funding and technical capacity for all sporting disciplines.

Haiya also pledged to develop a collaborative framework for key stakeholders, by enhancing resource mobilisation which includes partnering with the private sector.
“As a seasoned businessperson, I am aware every corporate partner wants value for money. For this reason, I will ensure that we treat the private sector as partners and not just mere sponsors. My leadership will be transparent and accountable to all sponsors and public at large,” Haiya said.
He said that he will ensure that all funds from Fifa, Caf and sponsors will be declared and traced to the last penny.
“I am here to repair damaged wheels and not to re-invent them so that we can start moving again together as a team. I am not here to build bridges where there are no rivers, but I am here to set a flame of hope to reignite the fire in our game of football,” Haiya said.
