Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Walter Nyamilandu has secured his first nomination from Central Region Football Association (CRFA) ahead of the association’s December 16 elections in Mzuzu City.
According to CRFA Chairperson Austin Ajawa, Nyamilandu has been nominated for the post of President with 11 votes out of 12, with the other voting for Super League of Malawi (Sulom) President Fleetwood Haiya.
CRFA has also nominated former Fam first vice president James Mwenda on the same position while Othaniel Hara has been nominated for the position of second vice president.
The association has also nominated its general secretary Bernard Chiwiruwiru Harawa for the executive member post while Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Finance Director Mervis Mangulenje is their preferred candidate for the female member executive position.
Ajawa said the decision to settle for Nyamilandu was an easy one, as the entire committee was convinced to give him another go.

“Everybody, except one, wanted Nyamilandu as our preferred candidate. We are delighted to have conducted a democratic voting process to come up with the names and the will of our members won,” Ajawa said.
Reacting upon getting his first nomination, Nyamilandu said the process has only begun.
“I am so humbled to still have the trust of people of the Central Region. I can only pay them back by continuing with developmental football programmes which we have embarked on in the country as we continue to raise the bar,” Nyamilandu said.
Following the development, Nyamilandu will likely face Sulom President Fleetwood Haiya, who declared his candidature on Sunday.

So far, Haiya has received three nominations from National Referees Association, Beach Soccer Association and Northern Region Football Association.
From the look of things, two camps have now emerged between Nyamilandu and Haiya, with Mwenda and Hara supporting the incumbent Fam president while Christopher Kuyera and Lameck Khonje are supporting Fleetwood Haiya.
Meanwhile, Southern Region Football Association, National Coaches Association and National Women’s Football Association will this weekend make their nominations.
Super League of Malawi and National Youth Football Association are yet to disclose dates when they would make their nominations.
Others that have been nominated include Fam Executive Committee Member Madalitso Kuyera, who has also been nominated for the position of First Vice President, whereas Patrick Kapanga, Chimango Munthali and Fellister Dossi.
