Lightweight pugilist Israel Kam’mwamba underlined his dominance on the domestic scene when he defeated challenger Salimu Chazama on technical knockout (TKO) in the fourth round to complete a clean trilogy sweep at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe on Sunday.
Kam’mwamba, who is yet to lose to a local opponent, dominated the contest and should have wrapped his victory in the third round of the eight-round non-title contest.
In the fourth round, Kam’mwamba systematically released a flurry of punches and body combinations to knock down the challenger, who was looking for his first win, having suffered two defeats in previous meetings.
Chazama beat the count but when the referee called for the bout to resume, but the Malawi Defence Force boxer was punch drunk, staggering and struggling to be on his feet. It was the end of the contest.
Kam’mwamba, 29, who improved his record to 14 wins, 10 losses and one draw in 25 bouts, said he had proved that his previous victories were not a fluke.

“I prepared well and deserved to win. I wanted to finish him off in the first two rounds,” he said.
Chazama, 29, who dented his record to 14 wins, eight losses and two draws in 25 bouts, conceded defeat.
“I had good preparations and started the fight strongly but my opponent was better. Congratulations to him. I also thank all those that supported me before the fight,” he said.
In 2019, Kammwamba knocked out Chazama in the fifth round of a title bout before retaining his belt in 2021 with a seventh round knockout.
