Central Region Football Association has announced that the final of its Nyasa Capital Finance Cup between Silver Strikers Reserve and Namitete Zitha will take place at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.
The association’s Public Relations Officer Kondwani Kandiado said they expect an exciting final with both teams looking forward to lifting the cup for the second time.
“Namitete are the cup’s defending champions while Silver lifted it in 2021. So whichever team wins on Saturday will be lifting the cup for the second time. So this is where the match’s excitement will be. On our part as organisers, we have put everything in place for this great day and we are only looking forward to witnessing one of our best matches in the 2023 season,” Kandiado said.
Namitete Team Manager Ringo Kanshulu said they are looking forward to the match.
“This is a game we have been looking forward to. Our focus remains on successfully defending the cup and proving that we did not win it by fluke last year. We know that Silver Reserve are a good side with lots of talent. They also have a very good technical panel and we respect them for that. But we will do everything to motivate our boys to fight their lungs out on this great day,” Kanshulu said.
Silver Reserve coach McDonald Yobe said he expects a tough match.
“This will be a tough match. But with mental readiness, I believe winning the cup is possible. For now what is happening in our camp is that every player is being assessed in terms of readiness for the final and we should finalise everything by Thursday,” Yobe said.
This season’s knockout format is different from last year’s which saw Namitete winning the cup after matches played on league basis among the region’s best four teams.
Ekas Freight Wanderers came second while Extreme FC were third with Kawinga finishing fourth.
