Some of the workers who migrated from Christian Health Association of Malawi (Cham) establishment to the government payroll system claim that they are yet to get their salary arrears.
In April this year, the government announced that workers it approved to be working in Cham facilities would be on the government payroll to lessen challenges they were facing in accessing their salaries.
However, a representative of the workers, Innocent Njakale, told The Daily Times that all is not well as the government owes them salary arrears for some months.
“We are over 180 of us and some of us have not been paid since April, when we migrated. Others were paid for four months, some three while others are yet to be paid. We have tried in vain to contact the authorities.

“This has affected us because, during the months we have not been paid, we accumulated loans we are yet to repay,” Njakale said.
Another worker who pleaded for anonymity said there had been a mix-up in the disbursement of salary arrears.
“Those who were being paid were also underpaid. For instance, those in Grade K were getting salaries that are meant for those of Grade M. We have tried to write Capital Hill and Cham, with no success,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health spokesperson Adrian Chikumbe has said they are handling the issue.

“From the information we have after collaborating with Cham, all have been successfully migrated and are being paid. What might have remained in some instances are the arrears, which are being carefully worked on,” Chikumbe said.
