Malawi Defence Force (MDF) pugilist Chimwemwe Chiotcha and Chikondi Makawa will face off in a non-title bout slated for August 5 at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe.
This will be the first official bout for New Dawn Boxing Promotions after almost six years of absence.
New Dawn Managing Director Mike Chimaliza said they have made the return due to public demand.
“There have been demands from different stakeholders, mostly boxing lovers, who still remember how good we used to be at organising exciting bouts worth their money.
“We have also been receiving requests from the boxers who reached their epitome after being exposed by our bouts. So we are responding to these requests and we are hitting the stage with a bang,’’ Chimaliza said.

He said they will mark their return with the theme ‘Youth Development through Boxing as a Sport’.
Chimaliza said they remain hopeful of good support from the stakeholders who have been asking for their comeback.
“Boxing tournaments do not come cheap. As a top boxing outfit, we strive towards ensuring that our fighters get good perks. We believe this is one way of motivating them to give out their best. We are therefore asking for support from individuals and organisations.
“We see boxing as one way of contributing towards youth development. Some of the boxers earmarked for the bills are girls and boys who are in schools and colleges. You may wish to know that some of them use part of the perks they get from us to further their education,’’ he said.

New Dawn has supported and promoted prominent boxers such as Salimu Chazama, Byson Gwayani and Kudakwashe Banda.
Chiotcha and Makawa are no strangers to each other, having met twice last year, with each winning once.
